The Before & After | Quite a Transformation

The new owners of this charming country hall knew they wanted to completely renovate the kitchen when they bought the property.

The old kitchen wasn’t terrible by any means, but it felt enclosed and a little cut off from the rest of the house. A long slim breakfast bar ran through the middle, and the glossy cabinetry felt out of place in this period home. Beyond the end wall was a lovely view of the gardens, just waiting to be enjoyed.

So, the wall came down.

This opened the kitchen into a new dining area and changed the whole feeling of the room. Suddenly, there was space to look through, move around more easily and enjoy the garden beyond. The kitchen and dining area now feel properly connected, creating one lovely, sociable room.

Natural oak and soft sage paintwork are the perfect combination for this modern country kitchen.

The breakfast bar has been replaced with a generous island and in place of wall cabinets, a large dresser with reeded glass display provides plenty of useful storage.

Like all our projects at Baker & Baker, everything was made especially for the room in our Essex workshop, allowing the cabinetry to follow the quirks and proportions of the house.

It is still the same room, with the same old beams overhead, but it now feels warmer, lighter and much more in keeping with the rest of the hall.

Quite the transformation.
